PVA film products belong to green environmental protection materials. The biooxygen consumption (BOD) of PVA was measured to be much lower than that of starch, and after five days of biodegradation of Airvol's PVA product, the amount of BOD measured by Air Products of America was less than 1% of the total initial BOD. Biological tests have shown that PVA is not toxic.
In terms of degradation mechanism, PVA material has both water and biological degradation properties. First, it dissolves in water to form glue solution and infiltrates into the soil, which can increase the soil's group viscosity, air permeability and water retention, and is especially suitable for sandy soil transformation. PVA material in soil can be decomposed by soil bacteria, and eventually can be degraded to CO2 and H2O.
